Love does not boast
I have a small dilemma
I’ve got two friends you see
It’s just, they don’t seem to get along
I wonder, could you help me?
There names are ‘love’ and boast’
Honestly, I’m better acquainted with one than the other
But I can’t stay friends with them both
And it’s proving to be quite a bother
I could describe them as water and oil
They just can’t exist together
They can’t even be in the same room
Let alone be seen with each other
‘Boast’ does pretend to be ‘love’ sometimes
But God is not a fool
He knows ‘Love’ in it’s purest form
He IS love after all!
Have you ever met love before?
I hope you’ve seen us hanging out
He’s not like the love in the movies you know
He’s not like the love in the movies you know
Or the fraud pop stars sing about
He’s not really a feeling at all
And certainly doesn’t have to feel good
Sometimes he involves pain and suffering
But is committed where other’s never could
I don‘t like to be seen out with ‘Boast’
But he’s often lurking
He revels in the limelight
So ‘Love’ is repulsed by him
‘Boast’ always puts himself first
Drawing all the attention
His appearance means everything
And so we have this tension
These two are incompatible
So it’s got to be ‘Love’ or ‘Boast’
‘Boast’ can’t be ‘Love’ and ‘Love’ can’t ‘Boast’
And there’s no room for them both
I think I’d rather have ‘Love’ in my life
Even though me and ‘Boast’ go way back
Love is selfless, humble and modest
And without him I know I lack
My speech despite it’s eloquence
Is like a clanging gong
But when I’m with love it’s melody is sweet
So sorry ‘Boast’, you’re gone!
