Death aches
I understand that we do not grieve as those who have no hope
For those who when eye lids are closed
Or when fridge doors in the morgue are shut
The last page has been turned over
And the narrating grave has the last word, declaring
'The end'.
For us, a new chapter simply begins
Unseen by man, yes but in the plain sight of God
Not lost but found in Him
Death has lost it's sting!
And though it's sting may have gone,
for which I am eternally grateful
I mean truly I am.
I confess to you God, whilst the sting has gone,
death still aches actually.
Our hearts ache with grief
Ache for missed Christmas' and birthdays
For weddings unattended
Memories not made
And sorrow reverberates in our muscles and in our bones
As our bodies echo our heavy souls, utterly exhausted.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, in our distress
Come, come quickly and close to the brokenhearted
Comfort us and bind our wounds we pray, amen.
