You're in safe hands

I need you to know that you're in safe hands.

And what safer hands are there than these?
This specialist consultant, an expert in her field
Leading research in this world-class historical city of academia
Whose name your parents can google
and be reassured that you're in safe hands.

And as this specialist gives us the news,
you're in my hands too.
I couldn't care less where we are, this public bay in the middle of a day unit
Sod it! In a split second, I'm up with you on your hospital bed
My arms thrown around you
One hand round your back,
one clutching your neck, fingers digging in a little.

As you cry.

We take it in.

"I want to be around for you and the kids"

"I'm worried they won't remember me"

But, you're in safe hands.

What safer hands are there than mine?
They may be small, but don't you ever underestimate the strength I hold on my left ring finger
I wear a band you gave me once,
a symbol of a promise we've given to each other hundreds of times
"with this ring I thee wed"
"in sickness and in health"
I have you.
I hold you.
What safer hands are there than these?
Of two lovers clasping hands with fingers entwined
Fingers adorned with gold and solemn vows
holding each other steady.

But, surpassing all this,
I know you're in God's hands too.

And what safer hands are there than these?

For the Lord is the great God,
the King above all gods.
In one hand He holds deep caves and caverns
whilst in the other, He grasps the highest mountain peaks.
With these very hands He scoops up the ocean
Between his thumb and little finger He measures out the sky (Isaiah 48 MSG)
It is here, within these magnificent, powerful, all creating, all sustaining hands
It is here that you sit too.
These hands sustain you
Your rock.
Your fortress
Your deliverer.

We can absolutely trust that you are in safe hands.
