A grieving church

Can it be a great comfort to grieve in community
To be understood
To be in it together
But feel isolated in it at the same time?

Who will care for us when our pastors need tending to?
Who will guide us when our teachers are left questioning?
Who will inspire us when our worship leaders are left speechless?
Who will speak God's word to us when our prophets, our seers can't see for tears?

What do we do when we're all at the end of ourselves?
When we've all run out.
When we all need someone else
but everyone is hurting and tired.

Well, what we do it is...
...is we prefer one another.

We don't think of ourselves
We seek each other's good
Put each other's needs above our own.

In short, we truly love one another

We pray for each other
We seek each other out for a hug
Send texts, pick up the phone and check in
We send scripture, a song, a poem
Drop off flowers
Write letters and cards
We offer help
Cook meals
Play with the kids.

Let onlookers see this
Let them see us
And marvel
Know that we are His.
That we are God's people
And that He is all that is love
He is making us more like Him.

Let them know that we are His disciples by our love for one another.
